Sandy Sykes Curriculum Vitae

Sandy Sykes MA was born in Yorkshire and is a painter, printmaker and maker of artist's books. Since 1970 Sykes has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally in solo and group shows, some of which have toured in Britain, Europe, USA and Russia. Represented in International Art Fairs in New York, Chicago and London, her work is held in numerous Public Collections including Tate Britain, Victoria and Albert Museum, The Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

2006 Residency at "firstsite" Contemporary Art, Colchester. "Dwelling" drawings made there of temporary shelter, and kites were then in a Solo Exhibition at Rabley Contemporary Drawing Centre.

2005 Winner of "The Bank of Canada Award" for "La Bienniale International D'estampe Contemporaine de Trois Riviers, Quebec Canada, she was also Prizewinner in "Bird 2005 International Art Award" Beijing China, a Medal winner in the "2nd Seoul International Bookarts Fair '05" Seoul Korea and a shortlisted prizewinner for "SKETCH 2005".

2003/4 Sykes won the Annual Lorne Award Scholarship. She also received a Major Artists Award from Arts Council England East, which allowed her to visit Egypt, New York, Florence and Sienna

2002 Funding Award from Commissions East. Solo Exhibition "Hopping the Pond: The Hedgehog Series" held at Manhattan Graphic Center New York 2002.

2001 Awarded a 6 week Scholarship and Residency to work on the Nagasawa Art Project in Japan.

2000 Awarded a three month Research Residency in New York and Manhattan Graphic Center Scholarship. Sykes also spent time researching in The Ellis Island Immigration Museum.
